Few men are classier than Idris Elba. The Actor and musician best known for his role as a drug lord in the HBO series The Wire, is also known for being a man of class. When it comes to fashion and looking sharp, few do it better than Idris. In fact, he’s acting, plus impeccable sense of style has created talk that make be might be the next – and first black – 007. Here Idris shares his tip on how to be so stylish, people may think you’re the next James Bond too.
Too many men, wealthy men in fact, wear too much color and flare when dressing up, but Idris suggests sticking with the basics. And nice black tux, white shirts, and a black bow tie is all you need. Oh, and a good tailor – because nothing matters more than fit.
If you’re going to make a statement with your clothes, do it with your coat. Most stick to the usual colors, blue, grey, black, sometimes camel – but here Idris is working a petrol blue topcoat to perfect. Notice though, how the rest of his outfit is all one color and very understated.
Be A Rule Breaker
Most know that going all one color is a sartorial no-no. But when you pick the right tones and textures as Idris has done here in all black, you can confidently break the rules. And look amazing doing it.
Dress For Your Shape
Nothing is worse than wearing a long coat when you’re short, or a short coat when you’re tall. It’s essential to wear clothes that flatter your figure, not insult it. Idris is a rather built individual, thus, he knows to wear clothes that are not fitted, but that gently skim his body.
Rock The Three-Piece
A three-piece nowadays almost seems like an antiquated notion, often coming off as more of a costume. But as mentioned before, when you get one that fits perfectly – as Idris is rockin’ here – you’ll look like the classiest man in the room.
Off Duty. In Style
Even the classiest of men have an off-duty wardrobe. And for far too many, they’re getting sucked into the latest fashions and trends that have them looking more like lumberjacks or ninjas, rather than mature gentlemen that dress their age. Here Idris shows that timeless pieces are called timeless for a reason. Just look at how well that jean jacket works for him.
Sneak In Some Sneakers
A modern gentleman knows when to, well, modernize his look. A suit with sneakers is no longer on trend, it’s an outfit that’s here to stay. Just make sure your sneakers go with your suit, like Idris’ does here. You Can never go wrong with all white, or black sneakers.
Learn From Your Mistakes
If you’re reading this, it’s likely because you haven’t mastered your wardrobe yet. Don’t worry, that takes years – decades even. Along the way you’ll make a ton of mistakes, like Idris here in his white wifebeater – on the red carpet no less!
